The TAK in collaboration with Fisheries have developed a minimum safety standard to be complied with by those interested to set up a dive operation. As basic requirements, all diving equipment, gears, boat, first aid kits must be in good condition and well maintained.

Diving is a high-risk business hence dive operators and personnel must be certified from internationally recognized organizations such as PADI and NAUI. Dive instructors must have their trainings and SCUBA certifications upgraded as and when required, or the dive operator must have a valid dive certificate obtained from a certified Dive instructor in Kiribati. Those certified divers from the Fisheries will be provided with the Mauri approved Certification by TAK.

Dive operators will therefore be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Dive Master Registration and Certification
• Diving Gear and equipment
• First Aid Kits and Safety Gear
• Public Liability cover
